Ultra Clear Digital Labels for the No Label Look
Exploring the emergence of digitally printed ultra clear self-adhesive labels
Today there is a huge and growing interest in clear-on-clear labelling (film labels) where brand owners replicate a direct decorated appearance using filmic labels. The use of ultra clear labels with no visible label edges has opened up new opportunities for designers and has supported the growth of new product categories.
Until recently using clear labels on clear containers has been problematic with the potential for the label graphics to be compromised by product colour show through.
Many converters have solved this problem by using the silk screen process or high opacity UV flexo printing (in combination with other print processes).
High Opacity Inks
Developments in digital ink technology have resulted in digital printing becoming a viable process for clear labelling on clear containers.
HP Indigo ElectroInk White Plus is now able to deliver white with high opacity by applying one thick layer of ink in a single pass. This single ink layer provides a perfect layer on which to print other digital colours and effectively minimises the impact of product show through.
Amberley has ElectroInk White Plus available on its new HP Indigo presses and are happy to explore the viability of digital print for your clear label applications.
