Digital Process

Digital printing is not a new technology. It has been used by many in the commercial world since its first emergence over 12 years ago however the use of digital printing as an industrial process for printing reel to reel labels has only recently been established.

As the technology has matured key benefits have emerged that make this process ideal for printing high quality labels in smaller batch sizes. Quality, Colour consistency, Batch size, Process workflow, Easy of use, Flexibility, are only a few of the many benefits that the digital process offers Amberley and it’s customers.

As digital technology and processes develop, faster machines with more capability and greater flexibility will emerge. The development of better systems to process the work and the technology to support this will only provide further benefits that Amberley will be able to offer its customers.

Amberley & Digital

The digital printing experience started for Amberley some six years ago when we fist started to look at the emerging technology. At this time digital printing was starting to establish itself within the commercial markets but was only in its infancy within the industrial market.

In 2003 Amberley made the decision to embrace the digital process and took delivery of its first press, the HP Indigo ws4000, along with a new finishing system from AB Graphics. Using our experience and expertise its was not long before we where producing results our customers where impressed with. Digital proofing and the quality of the finished product where sufficient for our customers to what to see more.

Due to the success of this new technology and our drive to support our customers we invested in a second HP press, a ws4050 in 2005. At the same time we took the opportunity to upgrade the original ws4000 and added in-line hot foiling capability to the finishing system.

Today the Digital process is a critical part of our success and many of our customers are now looking to see how they can benefit from this technology.

HP Support and Guidance
As one of the first users of the HP ws4000 industrial printing press in the UK our relationship with HP was critical to the success of the digital experience. Our relationship with HP has always been stronger and deeper than just a customer who has purchased a printing machine.

This relationship is built around a strong understanding of Amberley’s need to supply a benefit to its customers. In real terms this means key support in continued uptime of the presses, supply of consumables, technology and process developments that enable our capabilities and expertise to grow not only on the presses but in the digital experience.

Shaping the Future
As one of the key digital printers in the UK, Amberley have gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge in printing digital labels. At the beginning of 2005, HP invited Amberley to join its global advisory council. This consists of a group of label printers from across the world meeting twice a year with the HP product, marketing and sales teams to help guide HP on how to shape the future of its digital processes.

This not only supports HP who gain a vast amount of feedback from a large range of digital users but it give Amberley a window into the future of digital.
