The Queen of Labels

They are labels that are fit for the Queen of England whichever way you look at it – and good enough to win a prize in FINAT’s Label Awards Competition.

Amberley Labels, of Blandford in Dorset, UK is a two-times winner in FINAT’s (the global trade association for self-adhesive labels) competition for an own-brand bottled water stocked by London’s prestigious Fortnum & Mason – which prides itself as the Queen’s grocer. It has supplied groceries to Buckingham Palace for almost 150 years as well as to European royalty in the 19th century. It’s Piccadilly, London, shop is recognised as one of the world’s most exclusive emporiums.

FINAT’s first prize accolade for a food product label in the Marketing and End-users Group Label Awards for went to Amberley with its Fortnum & Mason bottled Blenheim Still Natural Mineral Water and that success has been crowned by it being declared the best in the whole category.

Awards organiser and chairman of its judges’ panel, Tony White, said: “Amberley’s label really is fit for a Queen and is a fine example of the label printer’s art.

“The label, printed in 10 colours on clear PET film has two back-to-back images in register so that the label can be viewed from either side when applied to the bottle. Very clever use of digital technology to the limits,” Mr White said.

The Awards were presented on June 11 at FINAT’s annual congress, held at Antalya, Turkey.
